Description of the LabMaster DPCI DeskTop BNC Product

The LabMaster DPCI product consists of two cards

1. The LabMaster DPCI computer interface which is installed inside the computer
2. The LabMaster DPCI External card which is housed in a DeskTop unit away from any internal computer noise. In this configuration we have added a full complement of BNC connections on the DeskTop unit.

The DeskTop BNC provides convenient industry standard BNC connections for the LabMaster signals in a small compact desktop unit measuring only 11" wide by 6" high by 7" deep (280mm x 152mm x 178mm).

BNC connections are ideal for many applications. They are widely used and standard patch cables are easily obtained. They are rugged, yet easy to use and stay connected with the "twist-on" locking feature of the connector.

A single quick-connect round cable connects from the LabMaster DPCI Interface to the LabMaster DeskTop BNC Unit, replacing the traditional ribbon cable connections.

The front of the DeskTop BNC Unit has the following BNC connections

• Analog Input
  • 16 signals, Ain 0 to Ain 15
  • Can operate as Single-Ended channels 0 to 15
  • Can operate as Differential-Input pairs 0(0-) to 7(7-)
  • Configurable as Unipolar (0 to +10v) or Bipolar (-10v to +10v)
• Analog Out
  • 2 signals, Aout 0 and Aout 1
  • Can be configured for various output ranges (+/-10v, +/-5v, +/-2.5v 0-5, 0-10v)
• Power Connections
  • +5v, 4ma
  • Ground
• Digital I/O
  • 24 Digital I/O signals
    • 8 Digital I/O signals A0 to A7
    • 8 Digital I/O signals B0 to B7
    • 8 Digital I/O signals C0 to C7

The Back of the DeskTop unit has connections for the LabMaster DPCI Interface and for the power supply. The LabMaster connection is a DB25 pin connector. The power supply uses a positive center post connection. The LabMaster DPCI requires a 5 volt power supply that is also provided with the unit.

The LabMaster DPCI Card:

The LabMaster DPCI card is a small card that installs into a 32-bit PCI slot. It is approximately 2" x 4" (50mm x 100mm). The card has a single DB25 socket connector.

LabMaster DPCI Computer Interface

Connecting the LabMaster DPCI and the DeskTop Unit:

To connect the LabMaster DPCI and the DeskTop Unit, use the following steps:

• Install the LabMaster DPCI card into your computer
• Attach the power supply (included) to the DeskTop unit.
  • Notice that with the power supply connected the front panel power supply light illuminates.
• Connect the cable (also included) between the LabMaster DPCI card installed in the computer and the DeskTop unit.
• Turn the power ON to your computer.
  • Now note that the front panel computer light of the DeskTop Unit is now also illuminated. The DeskTop unit requires both the power supply to be connected AND the computer to be on in order to provide power to its internal circuits. The DeskTop unit automatically powers on when the computer is on and automatically turns off when the computer is off.
